Boise Negligent Hiring Lawyers

Idaho Trucking Accident Attorneys

Some jobs that involve driving large trucks do not require a commercial driver's license or any real experience. Even where a CDL license is required, that driver is not necessarily qualified or safe to take the wheel.

When trucking companies or other businesses are lax in hiring practices, the rest of us pay the price. The Carty Houst law firm in Boise, Idaho, has held employers accountable for negligent hiring for giving the keys to unqualified or unsafe drivers who caused a crash.

We handle all types of truck accidents and bus accidents resulting in serious injury or fatality. Call us at 208-342-3501 or 877-293-9300 for a free consultation.

Boise Negligent Hiring Lawyers: Employer Liability for Truck Crashes

The state of Idaho issues CDL licenses, but this is largely a formality. The state does require a written test, but behind-the-wheel exams are conducted by employers — a conflict of interest. Employers are also responsible for background checks, drug tests and training of drivers.

The unfortunate reality is that some employers take shortcuts in the screening process or knowingly hire drivers with criminal records, multiple traffic violations, a pattern of accidents or a history of substance abuse. Why? Because background checks are expensive, the employer needs to fill positions or shifts on short notice, and many driving jobs do not pay enough to attract experienced drivers with clean records.

In one recent case, our investigation revealed that a school bus driver responsible for a serious-injury accident was hired despite testing positive for marijuana and despite falling asleep on his previous job as a bus monitor.

Sadly, low hiring standards and lax background checks are all too common, especially for seasonal work, driving bus, delivering pizza and other low-echelon jobs. Our lawyers know what to ask and where to look to uncover evidence of the negligent or intentional hiring of accident-waiting-to-happen drivers.
