Investigating Fatal Car Crashes in Idaho
An accident that left a man dead on Coeur d'Alene River Road in Shoshone County, Idaho, is currently under investigation. Anthony M. Legard, a passenger in a Mitsubishi Lancer that crashed on July 9, was removed from the car by fire personnel who performed CPR on him. Legard was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was treated and released from the hospital after undergoing blood tests; Idaho law requires blood testing after all fatal accidents. The sheriff of Shoshone County and crash re-constructionists are investigating the accident scene in an attempt to determine exactly what caused the car crash, although preliminary reports indicate that speed may have played a role. The speed limit on the road is 35 mph, and the Shoshone sheriff pointed out that the road is not inherently dangerous. The Lancer was flipped upside down and totalled during the crash.
Car Accident Investigations
Police investigate car accidents, particularly Idaho fatal accidents, to determine if anyone involved in the crash was breaking the law at the time of the accident so they can make an arrest or issue the proper citation. They try to determine the speed at which all of the vehicles involved were travelling, whether there were any mechanical issues with the vehicles, whether a driver was intoxicated at the time of the wreck, and, in the case of a big rig, whether a truck driver drove more hours than legally allowed.
Investigations typically include a study of the car accident site, including measurements, an on-scene inspection of the vehicles involved, and witness interviews. Police may ultimately work with specialists to reconstruct the facts of the car crash.
Boise Car Accident Statistics
In 2009, there were eight fatal traffic accidents in Boise alone, with a total of ten fatalities. One of those accidents was a Boise drunk driver accident. Nineteen people were involved in these fatal accidents, including six pedestrians.
If you are suffering from the loss of a loved one due to a fatal car crash, there may be legal remedies available to you, such as a wrongful death suit against the other driver's insurance company, or a products liability claim for a defective vehicle. An experienced Boise personal injury attorney can make sure your rights are protected and the appropriate remedy sought depending upon the facts of the case.
